Objective: Write an essay that discusses John Proctor as a Tragic hero. This essay should include all of the following
1. Introduction Paragraph with: “Author/Book” Thesis, Summary of the work sentences, a definition of tragic hero someplace in the paragraph
1. The character of John Proctor (insight on who he is
2. His conflict with his wife.
3. His relationship with Abigail Williams
4. His reaction to being accused as a witch (end).
5. Conclusion: How the term of tragic hero fits him.
These 5 areas should be a paragraph each. Each one of these paragraphs should contain at least one piece of textual evidence (a quote from the play proving your point.) You may add more quotes and explanations if you want your paper to be considered for extra credit.
Tragic Hero Definition:
a tragic hero is an inherently good person but has a flaw that causes his/her downfall. This flaw is referred to as a tragic flaw.
John Proctor tragic flaw is not current but in his past. He has committed lechery.
Lechery= excessive or offensive lustful desires.

John is angry Elizabeth is cold to him. Mary Waren gives a poppet to Elizabeth. Hale comes to question johns faith. Cheever investigates the house, finds that poppet has a needle in it and arrests Elizabeth for witchcraft
Act 3

Proctor went to the jury with Mary Warren to testify against Abigail and the girls. He confesses to lechery with Abigail at the end of the scene. John is accused of being a witch by Mary Warren.
Act 4
PP.207-212
John has a conversation with Elizabeth about if he should confess or not. John wants to confess saying he “wants his life.” John signs the paper to confess but give it to the jury as he states he “won’t sign his name to a lie.” John rips his paper up and then is hung.
