Mr. Baran ALL English Classes: Basic Expectations
Don’t complain or roll your eyes at work. Impressions become reputations
ALL STUDENTS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN MAKE UP WORK. THE TEACHER SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ZEROES RESULTING FROM WORK NOT MADE UP. Also remember that it is the school’s policy to deduct points from a quarterly average for work not made up in a timely manner. There is an understanding that in this class, anytime a student is not in class, he or she has something to make up. Make up work is not scheduled around your job. You will not get 10 days to make up small assignments.
Please get information from mrbaranpvmhs.weebly.com. Use the mail email to submit papers when you are absent [email protected]. Major papers must arrive on due dates or be counted late.
Understand that even if you do not have a text book, all reading material can be found online. And there are many free tutorials on YouTube that provide instruction.
Mobile devices cannot be used during evaluations and may be collected for safekeeping.
Please comply with class rules and school rules; I enforce both. Failure to comply or disrespectful arguments will be met with immediate removal.
All students give an honest effort despite ability.
I will only read your drafts if you show up in person with your work.
It’s not about how one starts but rather how one finishes, ie senior slide
Understand that grading is necessary, not personal.
Don’t whine or grade grub.
I will be reasonable if you speak to me honestly and directly.
Students of English are required to read. If you are an upper-level student and won’t read, you may want to reconsider your placement. Please speak to your parents/guardians or guidance about this.

Grades
Papers are worth 50- 100 points. Research papers may be more
Late papers will deducted 10 points per day late; no credit after 3 days late
Tests are worth 50 -100 points
Quizzes are worth 20-50 points
Homework is worth 10-20 points (done = 10, most to partial = 5, none = 0)
Homework is never accepted late; it just becomes no credit.
One can expect roughly 500 points offered per quarter. Students’ accumulation of points will be divided by the amount of points offered. For example, if a student earned 390 points in a 500 point quarter (390/500) then that student’s average would be a 78. ---got it!?
